1. Uncertain year for palm oil

PETALING JAYA: Divergent views on crude palm oil (CPO) price forecasts ranging from RM2,250 to RM4,100 per tonne this year, amid uncertainties in crude oil prices and changes in biodiesel mandates, will compel planters to be more vigilant in their operations.

The average CPO price forecast made at the recently concluded Palm and Lauric Oils Conference 2011 (POC 2011) of RM3,100 per tonne bodes well for many local oil palm firms to continue gaining reasonable profits, said United Malacca Bhd chief executive officer Dr Leong Tat Thim. The cost of production for peninsula oil palm planters is said to be about RM1,200 a tonne, while for those in Sabah and Sawarak it is about RM1,300RM1,400 and RM1,400RM2,000 respectively.

2. Move to amend Kootu Act

PETALING JAYA: A proposal has been made to amend the Kootu Funds (Prohibition) Act 1971 to increase the penalty under the Act.

Companies Commission of Malaysia public relations unit head Mohamad Shahren Moha-mad Yusri said the proposal was made because the existing law was insufficient to eradicate kootu schemes in the future. “The proposed amendments are expected to be tabled in Parliament this month,” he said in a statement yesterday.

A DRIP-ping trend

The Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRIP), where investors have the option to take shares, cash or a bit of both could well become a trend among public-listed companies, especially those with steady dividend payouts, say analysts.

Banks especially are expected to do this ahead of the implementation of Basel III in 2012, which will require them to have a higher amount of capital-to-loan ratio (capital adequacy ratio). "It is particularly relevant for those requiring only a little capital, which would make a rights issue an uneconomical exercise for it," Jupiter Research Sdn Bhd head of research Pong Teng Siew told Business Times.

Of the three DRIPs announced in the last year or so, two are from banks, namely Malayan Banking Bhd and AMMB Holdings Bhd while the third is Axis-REIT Managers Bhd. Maybank, the DRIP pioneer, had an overwhelming response with an 89 per cent take-up rate. AMMB has yet to announce the results of the scheme while Axis-REIT still needs to get unitholders' approval. Another analyst, who declined to be named, said sectors which give regular and strong dividend payouts such as the real estate investment trust, telecommunications and banks could well start to favour DRIP as an alternative to cash dividends.

Couple this with a decent upside potential to the stock, and shareholders themselves could take a liking to opting for dividends to take the form of shares. DRIPs so far have accorded shareholders with a discount of up to 10 per cent to the market price. "From a minority shareholder point of view, it gives them an opportunity to evaluate their standing in the company. If they are still happy with the company then they can opt to reinvest in it. It is voluntary and it accords them more choice, which is always a good thing," OSK Research Sdn Bhd research head Chris Eng said.

SDC woos whopping RM32b investment till May: Sabah CM

KOTA KINABALU, Oct 7 – The Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) has attracted RM32 billion investment between January 2008 and May this year, 30.5 per cent of the targeted RM105 billion investment for the next 18 years.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said this showed encouraging initial response from both foreign and local investors for the SDC, an initiative to fully exploit the abundant natural resources at the corridor for state economic growth.
The initiative is expected to create 900,000 jobs and boost the gross domestic product by four-fold to RM63.2 billion by 2025, he said at the launch of the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) open day today.
Musa said the SDC focused on agriculture, palm oil, tourism, oil and gas as its core activities.
He said the SDC was parallel with the ETP initiative to transform the agriculture sector into “agri-business” to suit market requirements and integrated value chain. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Four companies cheated about 200,000 people of some RM100mil in tontine schemes. The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) was investigating the four companies, said Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“Three directors of a company have been charged with cheating 80,000 people of RM22.4mil since last year,” said Ismail Sabri after meeting with the task force committee fighting white collar crime at the SSM headquarters in KL Sentral here yesterday. He added that the ministry was also investigating three other companies operating in the northern states and believed to have cheated 120,000 people. The minister said the companies claimed that they practised Taawon scheme (helping one another in Arab) and smart kootu scheme, both of which are illegal.

The task force committee was established on March 9 and included representatives from Bank Negara, the Securities Commission and Bursa Malaysia. Ismail Sabri said SSM would also look into using the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2001 (Amla) to further exercise the law on such culprits. We found owners of such companies escaped overseas after making their profit, and they are known to have made purchases of properties and luxury cars. “With Amla, we will be able to freeze their accounts and assets,” he added.

Two engineers fleeced in dispenser scam

JOHOR BARU: Lured by high returns, two engineers applied for nine credit cards between them and invested a total of RM42,000 in a get-rich-quick scheme – only to find that they had been fleeced.

K. Thorajoo, 32, and Lee Poh Kheong, 39, who were lured by the attractive profit figures presented by a water dispenser company even used up all their life savings. Lee, coaxed into signing a contract at the company’s office in Taman Molek at the end of last year, said he was so convinced about the tempting offer that he persuaded Thorajoo to invest in it also. “The company promised us a lucrative profit of at least RM1,000 per month, but all we earned was RM200 per month.

“After a few months, I sensed something was amiss so I called the sales representative about my money and he even scolded me for being unreasonable,” Lee said, adding that he later found the office had ceased operations two months ago. Thorajoo, a father of one, said he did not even receive the water dispensing machine after paying such a hefty amount. He said their contract required them to pay the company RM1,400 monthly for the rental of the machine, but he stopped paying after three months when he did not receive the keys to his machine.

“I am now in debt for about RM15,000 and I hope the banks will be lenient and understand our situation,” Thorajoo told reporters during a press conference organised by Johor Baru MCA public complaints bureau deputy chief Michael Tay here. Tay urged the public not to be so gullible as to sign up for such schemes. Seri Alam OCPD Supt Roslan Zainuddin, confirmed both men had lodged reports and requested anyone with information to call the police hotline on 07-2212999 or the nearest police station.

The lady then said thatit sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, 'We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.'

He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night.

KUALA LUMPUR: A man in his 40s, believed to be the general manager of a get-rich-quick company, was nabbed at its headquarters here yesterday. The police also seized several documents believed to contain details of the scheme.

The raid at the company’s office in Tengkat Tong Shin followed a raid at premises in Sunway Mentari in Petaling Jaya on Tuesday. Commercial crime investigation department assistant director (operations/intelligence) Asst Comm Rohaimi Md Isa said the man had been running the business on an expired licence. Meanwhile, the police have released 43 of the 59 people arrested on Tuesday night. ACP Rohaimi said they were released as police had finished recording their statements. The remand order for the remaining 16 have been extended to Monday to facilitate police in their investigation.

US bank failures total 108 after 5 shut on Friday

WASHINGTON, July 31 — US bank failures reached 108 so far in 2010 on Friday as regulators seized five small banks in the Pacific Northwest and the Southeast, none publicly traded. Bank failures are expected to peak this quarter, with the industry slowly recovering from large portfolios of bad loans, many tied to commercial real estate.

The banks seized yesterday were LibertyBank of Eugene, Oregon; The Cowlitz Bank of Longview, Washington; Coastal Community Bank of Panama City Beach, Florida; Northwest Bank & Trust of Acworth, Georgia; and Bayside Savings Bank of Port Saint Joe, Florida, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. The five banks would cost the agency’s deposit insurance fund about US$335 million (RM1.07 billion), the FDIC said. The biggest bank failure of the crisis was Washington Mutual, which had US$307 billion in assets when it was seized in September 2008.

Report: Investor Li Lu could be successor to Buffett

NEW YORK: Li Lu, a Chinese American investor and hedge fund manager, could be in line to take a top investment role at Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway and even succeed the legendary US investor, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

In an interview with the newspaper, Berkshire’s vice chairman Charlie Munger said he felt it was “a foregone conclusion” that Li, a hedge fund manager who largely invests in Asian technology stocks, would become one of Berkshire Hathaway’s top investment officials. The Journal reported that Li, 44, is in line to become a successor to Buffett, 79. Buffett, who has built an estimated US$47bil fortune running the Omaha, Nebraska-based company, does not have any current plans to step down, but speculation about his eventual successor has increased in the past few years. Berkshire operates about 80 businesses and has tens of billions of dollars invested in US companies.

NEW DELHI, July 23 — India has come up with the world’s cheapest “laptop,” a touch-screen computing device that costs US$35 (RM112).

India’s Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal this week unveiled the low-cost computing device that is designed for students, saying his department had started talks with global manufacturers to start mass production. “We have reached a (developmental) stage that today, the motherboard, its chip, the processing, connectivity, all of them cumulatively cost around US$35, including memory, display, everything,” he told a news conference.

He said the touchscreen gadget was packed with Internet browsers, PDF reader and video conferencing facilities but its hardware was created with sufficient flexibility to incorporate new components according to user requirement. Sibal said the Linux based computing device was expected to be introduced to higher education institutions from 2011 but the aim was to drop the price further to US$20 and ultimately to US$10.

The device was developed by research teams at India’s premier technological institutes, the Indian Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science. India spends about three percent of its annual budget on school education and has improved its literacy rates to over 64 per cent of its 1.2 billion population but studies have shown many students can barely read or write and most state-run schools have inadequate facilities. — Reuters

Woman loses RM1.2mil to ‘British’ man through Internet

KUALA LUMPUR: A virtual friendship cost a 47-year-old housewife a very real RM1.2mil. The con man she had befriended on the Internet did not just wipe out her savings but also that of her mother, sister, niece and her husband’s funds for investments.

The woman, who only wanted to be known as Madam Lee, said a man who claimed to be a British offshore engineer named Jeff Brian Manik had added her to his list of online friends last year. Lee said the man told her that he was sending 10 gifts for Easter, including a designer wrist watch, perfume, a Louis Vuitton bag, jewellery, a laptop computer, a camera and his latest picture through a courier service in April.

“He asked me to pay RM16,500 as a deposit to claim those gifts, which I did by banking the money into two local bank accounts, but I did no see any gifts in the end,” she told a press conference held by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong yesterday. She said she received an e-mail from a man said to be Manik’s agent about two weeks later who told her Manik wanted to invest in property in Malaysia and needed her help to handle his £2.3mil for the transaction.

“I was convinced after I met the agent at a hotel with a suitcase of pound sterling notes,” she said. Lee said she deposited cash close to RM400,000 with various agents via various account names between April 20 and May 11 for the transfer of the money here. She said she deposited RM586,000 into a company account on May 16 after she received a call from one of the agents that there was a 5% tax charge on the £2.5mil.On May 26, Lee said she paid another RM258,000 to the same company.

Lee said she felt something was amiss when she never received the gifts but she was convinced by the so-called agent about the so-called Manik’s interest in investing in Malaysia. “I just wanted to help a friend but I did not expect it to turn out like this, I just want the money back to repay my family and friends,” she said, adding that she had never met Manik.

This week, she lodged a police report. Chong said he had received complaints from 18 women of a similar cheating scam with losses amounting to more than RM2.4mil since 2007. “Please be wary of these con men,” he said. “Some of these women were not only cheated of their hearts but all their money, too.” Chong said the British High Commission had received many complaints of such cases where a man with a British accent would befriend a woman through the Internet.

Palm oil output expected to rise

YOGYAKARTA: Malaysia palm oil stocks are set to recover in May and rise faster in the next three months as Asian consumers take up more soyaoil that trades on par with the tropical oil, a senior official said yesterday.

Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Basri Wahid said palm oil stocks usually fall in the June-August period as top buyers India and the Middle East stock up for religious festivals from August starting from Ramandan fasting month. But ample South American supplies of soyaoil have made the normally expensive vegetable oil trade at same level as FOB palm olein seen at US$810 (RM2,632.5) for June delivery, prompting a switch of orders away from Malaysia, the No. 2 palm oil producer.

Also, India has record stocks of oilseeds for crushing, discouraging crude palm oil imports from top producer Indonesia as well as Malaysia. "Palm oil stocks and exports seasonality in Malaysia has been turned upside down," Mohd Basri said in an interview ahead of an industry meet in the historic Indonesian city of Yogyakarta. "April palm oil stocks hit 1.6 million tonnes and we will go way above that in the next three months," he said, declining to give details.

MPOB, a key regulator for the industry, will release its May palm oil stocks, production and export data on June 10. Adding to the palm oil stock build-up in Malaysia is a stronger output from May and June onwards as El Nino-driven hot weather eases and stops aggravating yield stress in oil palms, Mohd Basri said. But the effects of the unusual weather condition may be felt during the sesaonal peak output season in October as higher temperatures in the first quarter of this year may have stunted oil-rich palm flowers that take six months to bear fruit.

"El Nino was not as bad as we feared it would be. There could a moderation in the output but I believe we can meet our target range of 17 and 18.1 million tonnes for production this year," Mohd Basri said. "It will just be at the lower end." - Bloomberg

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara has commenced investigations into The Gold Label Sdn Bhd on suspicion of conducting illegal deposit taking and money laundering activities. The company is being investigated under subsection 25(1) Banking and Financial Institutions Act 1989 (BAFIA) and sub-section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 (AMLATFA) respectively, Bank Negara said in a statement here yesterday.

The central bank also said that a raid on The Gold Label was conducted yesterday at its premises in Northpoint Offices, Tower A Mid Valley City, in Kuala Lumpur, following complaints received from members of the public. Relevant assets and documents of the company were seized for the purpose of investigation. Members of the public are reminded to remain cautious and avoid placing money or deposits with companies not licensed by Bank Negara.

The list of licensed institutions authorised to accept deposits is available on Bank Negara website, http://www.bnm.gov.my./ Bank Negara said members of the public should be wary of investing in get-rich-quick schemes to avoid losing their savings and money to fraudulent parties. Project to breed rare fish In Sabah.

KOTA MARUDU: The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, through its biotechnology division, will undertake the breeding of rare native fishes using biotechnology techniques. Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said under the initiative, the division would produce fingerlings to restock rivers especially with high-value fish that have good market potential, such as pelian in Sabah, empurau in Sarawak and kelah in the peninsula.

"I am optimistic that the programme will contribute to eradicating rural poverty by increasing the income of rural folk from the sale of river fish," Dr Ongkili said when officiating the harvesting of fish at the Kanarom river in Kampung Pompodon here under the Tagal system. A community-driven initiative, the Tagal system is a traditional practice where the river is closed for fishing and only opened once a year to allow the fish to mature for the market.

The Tagal system is enforced under the Native Customary Law of Sabah and the Freshwater and Aquaculture Fisheries Enactment 2003. "The system is a good strategy for conservation and to ensure sustainability of declining and depleting river resources," Dr Ongkili said. He was happy to note that the system had been proven successful not only in Kota Marudu but also in other districts, and was an effective tool in promoting rural tourism.

Kota Marudu district fisheries officer Masrani Madun said the Tagal in Kampung Pompodon, initiated in 1998, was one of the oldest in the district of 23 villages that practised the system. The system's success was due to the cooperation of villagers and their discipline in adhering to the rules and conditions set. Dr Ongkili also said the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry had recently been instructed by the cabinet to keep an inventory of all Tagal in Sabah and Sarawak and provide a community fund to further promote the system in the two states.

PETALING JAYA: Bank Negara has commenced investigations on Dencomm Sales & Services Sdn Bhd for alleged illegal deposit taking and money laundering activities. The central bank conducted a raid at the firm’s premises in Bandar Penawar, Kota Tinggi Johor yesterday following complaints from members of the public.

“Relevant assets and documents of the company were seized for the purpose of investigation,” Bank Negara said in a statement. Bank Negara advised members of the public to be cautious of deposit taking and investment schemes offered through various channels such as the Internet, phone calls or seminars by parties not liccensed, approved or authorised by the relevant authorities.

The activities are in breach of subsection 25(1) Banking and Financial Institutions Act 1989 (BAFIA) and subsection 4(1) of Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 (AMLATFA) respectively. Subsection 25 (1) of BAFIA 1989 prohibits any person from receiving, taking, or accepting deposits without having a valid licence, whereas subsection 4(1) of AMLATFA 2001 prohibits any person from engaging in, or attempting to engage in, or abetting the commission of money laundering activities.

In February, the central bank also investigated Semangat Teknologi Gagah Sdn Bhd (STG) and its related companies for suspected illegal deposit taking. The raids on STG and its related companies were carried out on Feb 4 at their premises in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, also following complaints from the public.

MEDAN: Maid agencies in Sumatera will be meeting on Saturday to discuss lowering the cost of sending Indonesian maids to Malaysia. A spokesman for the agencies, Asa Binsar, said the cost could be less if the maids were sourced from Sumatera.

“However, if we have to source the maids from Java, there will not be much difference in terms of cost,” he told Bernama yesterday. He said this after the representatives of 35 Sumatran maid agencies had a meeting with Malaysian ambasador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Munshe Afdzaruddin Syed Hassan at the Malaysian Consul-General’s Office here.

Also present was Malaysia’s Consul-General here Norlin Othman. Presently, it costs up to RM8,000 to hire an Indonesian maid, which has become a bone of contention between the two countries who are currently in talks to draw up a memorandum to iron out the issue.

Malaysia mulls perks for palm oil millers to be green IPPs

The Malaysian government is carrying out a comprehensive study to help palm oil millers reduce their carbon footprint and at the same time become green independent power producers.

THE government may offer specific incentives for palm oil millers to recycle waste to generate renewable energy and contribute to the national power grid, said Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok.

"We're carrying out a comprehensive study to help palm oil millers reduce their carbon footprint and at the same time become green independent power producers (GIPPs)," he told reporters after touring Bell Eco Power Sdn Bhd's biogas power plant in Batu Pahat, Johor yesterday.

"This will be in line with the country's overall policy to reduce dependence on fossil fuel. By 2020, we target annual usage of renewable energy to 2,000 megawatts (MW) from just 50MW now."

OIL palm plantation owners in Sabah face increasing cost of doing business due to the slow trunk road upgrade between major towns and labour shortage. Many oil palm planters have long suffered from congestion and slow transport of oil to the ports for shipment as well as shortage of labour to harvest fruit bunches.

"The government should speed up upgrading of trunk roads here to handle heavy loads of produce. We now face congestion problems," said Kam Cheong Plantations Sdn Bhd director Cheong Sung Yan. He is also the Incorporated Society of Planters (ISP) Sabah's northeast branch chairman. "Don't forget that Sabah produces about a third of Malaysia's palm oil exports. The trunk road is congested and the road system is bad," he told Business Times on the sidelines of a workshop organised by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council and ISP in Sandakan yesterday.

Cheong lamented that oil palm plantation owners in Sabah pay cess to the Malaysian Palm Oil Board, income and corporate tax to the Finance Ministry, workers' levy to the Home Ministry and 7.5 per cent sales tax to the Sabah government. "We pay so much tax to the government, (but) what do we get in return? We hear announcements that hundreds of million ringgit had been allocated to build and upgrade roads here but ... until today, implementation remains to be seen," Cheong said.

Two months ago, the Rural and Regional Development Ministry had said that it will spend about RM2.1 billion to provide rural basic infrastructures in Sabah and Sarawak under the National Key Result Areas (NKRA) this year. Its minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal had said the allocation also involved the completion of last year's projects to build new roads nd provide water and electricity supply. Of the total, about RM928 million would be allocated to Sabah.

For NKRA's rural road projects, Sabah was allocated RM134.9 million to complete 40 of last year's projects and another RM56.8 million to implement 36 new roads. On labour shortage, Cheong said the government's frequent change in the method of foreign labour application is burdening oil palm planters.

"(Of course) if we can help it, we want to be on the safe side of the law. But to legalise foreign labour, we need to approach five or six government agencies and it costs us RM2,000 per worker. That works out to RM2 million to legalise 1,000 workers," he said.

While oil palm planters support the government policy to employ more locals and enhance mechanised harvesting on the estates, the reality is far from expectations. Cheong said that young locals entering the labour market are just not interested in menial jobs like harvesting of oil palm fruits. "This has been a long recurring problem that oil palm planters here face. We want to see the government eliminate red tape in the application for foreign labour because it is adding unnecessary cost to doing business," he said.

ALOR STAR, March 19 — Kedah has had its share of grand “vision” plans, thought up by a succession of ambitious mentris besar, to turn its modest economy into a regional powerhouse to rival Penang’s.

Those plans and the politicians who dreamed them up are gone and forgotten. However, the promises of those plans, of providing better jobs and a better standard of living, still light up the eyes of most Kedahans.
This time, there is no grand plan but a massive fuel processing and refinery project in Yan district that could transform the landscape and lives of tens of thousands of people in one of the state’s major rice-growing areas.

Part of the project involves building a two-train refinery that will sit on a 340 ha plot of reclaimed land on the coast near Sungai Limau, a tiny town surrounded by huge swaths of verdant padi fields. It is being called the Sungai Limau Hydrocarbon Hub (Sulih).

The other part, which is currently on hold, is building a 300km oil pipeline that will snake through Kedah, northern Perak over the Titiwangsa main range to Bachok, Kelantan. It could potentially bring in RM200 million a year for the Kedah government and create up to 3,000 new jobs.

It is not just the scale of the project that has people excited and some worried. Once completed, the refinery would turn what is now a rice bowl area, into a heavy industrial zone. The residents of Sungai Limau, especially those who will live in the shadow of the refinery, are now contemplating the hard adjustments that they will have to make. They will have to make the transition from their now sedate kampung existence to the hurly-burly of city life.

More importantly, they are worried that they will not see a sen from the millions in spin-off revenue from the food outlets, shops and smaller industries that will mushroom around Yan.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia, the world’s No. 2 palm oil producer, will miss its output target of 18.1 million tonnes because of a shortage of foreign labour even as yields recover, according to a top industry official.

Industry regulator Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) chairman Sabri Ahmad said yesterday Indonesian plantation workers made better pay at home as more palm oil estates started up there while employers in Malaysia had trouble hiring because of a stricter work-permit process.

Sabri added that while concerns about hot weather caused by the El Nino weather phenomenon weighed on the industry, labour was the main issue now. “The hot weather from El Nino is not the problem now because its effect can be seen 12-18 months later.

“The bigger issue is the labour shortage and if that is resolved, then 18.1 million tonnes is possible,” Sabri Ahmad told Reuters ahead of the Bursa Malaysia Palm Oil Conference next week.

“Historically, Malaysian palm oil output should not be weak for two straight years. Sarawak should contribute to production. We just don’t have enough labour,” he said

NUSAJAYA: A 22-year-old woman has fallen prey to an online scam that caused her to lose RM120,000.

The victim is a clerk from Sungai Renggit, Kota Tinggi. She received an email from an unknown sender last Wednesday stating that she won STG800,000 (RM4.06 million) from the United Kingdom National Lottery.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the email sender persuaded the clerk to deposit money into six accounts in a local bank in order to redeem her prize money.

She did so before realising she had been cheated. Mokhtar said the sender, in persuading her, gave several reasons including obtaining a lottery certificate from the UK National Lottery and to settle a customs-related case involving another person who was delivering the prize money from UK.

Lessons to be learnt from a Dubai murder

The January 20 murder of Hamas senior military commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh is still in the news, more than a month after his apparent assassination by professional hitmen.

The team of at least 11 people employed disguises, fake passports, and sophisticated communication equipment. The murder, believed to have been committed through electrocution and suffocation, has drawn condemnation from many countries. Mossad, Israel's spy agency, remains the prime suspect. Several arrests have been made but experts believe the killers will be difficult to find.

The case gained traction in cyberspace when Dubai police released a video comprising CCTV footage that retraced the steps taken by suspects from the moment they arrived at the airport until they fled the country after the crime. The video has been posted on YouTube, twitter, and promoted on various blogs.

Several thoughts come to mind after viewing this evidence. The first is that Dubai may need to evaluate and restructure its relatively open immigration practices. Screen visitors more closely and ask them more questions, for example.

According to reports, this is not the first high-profile international assassination in Dubai in recent years. In March 2009, former Chechen military commander Sulim Yamadayev was shot dead at a parking garage in the city. In 2008, Lebanese pop star Suzanne Tamim was stabbed to death in her apartment.

Another observation about the video is the high quality of CCTV footage. Images are very clear and sharp, whether it involves scenes from the airport, hotels, or a shopping mall where the suspects gathered to meet and make preparations. This is in stark contrast to the grainy and blurred CCTV footage we are used to seeing here, where even faces and licence plates are hard to make out.

Often such images have to be sent to experts to be further enhanced if they are to be of any use to enforcement of law. If such high quality video equipment is available, perhaps it is time to upgrade the outdated cameras we have in place, especially in strategic areas like airports, hotels, and banks. There's no point to have surveillance cameras if in the end, you're not going to see anything worthwhile.

The third lesson from the video is that transparency pays. The police could have easily called a press conference and just announced their findings. But to actually show the evidence makes it more credible and believable. And the fact that Dubai police managed to solve the case in such a short time only boosts their reputation and gains respect for their professionalism.

This could be emulated not only by law enforcement in other countries, but also any organisation that finds it difficult to get its message across or prove a point to the public. Don't just tell people what you have done or achieved - show it to them.

JAKARTA, Feb 25 – Indonesia’s planned launch of a new crude palm oil futures contract for the world’s top producer will face severe difficulties given Bursa Malaysia’s dominant position, a top industry analyst said on Thursday. “There is room for only one futures exchange for palm oil,” said Dorab Mistry, who handles the vegetable oil trading portfolio for the London unit of India’s Godrej Industries, in an email to Reuters.

Mistry said the Bursa Malaysia Derivative Exchange (BMD) has the advantage of being the first mover, and has gained credibility as it has been around a long time. “Therefore the new Indonesian exchange will find the market very challenging,” he said. The Indonesia Commodity & Derivative Exchange (ICDX) aims to launch the contract in April, but is chasing trading volumes of more than 4 million lots a month on Bursa Malaysia.

The move is the second attempt to create an Indonesian benchmark price, providing a better reflection of local supply and demand, and eliminating currency risk. But traders and analysts have doubts as to whether it can succeed given the lack of regular industry data releases in Indonesia to help buyers and sellers properly judge price direction. “Poor and delayed official data in Indonesia is always a problem,” Mistry said.

The absence of data and access to industry information by small traders, will make it hard to build up liquidity, he said. Lack of liquidity was one of the main reasons that the previous attempt failed. “We as a company would not trade on a new exchange. As time goes by and it develops credibility, the position may change,” Mistry said. “In most cases, we prefer to take physical delivery and we like to trade physical quantities. That is why we are happy to buy and sell Indonesian palm products physically from reputed large Indonesian companies,” he added. – Reuters

PETALING JAYA (Feb 17, 2010): Investment scams promising high returns have become a menace in the country with investors losing over RM1 billion over the past five years. A Bukit Aman Commercial Crimes Department official said police recorded a three-fold increase in the number of investment scams over the period.

The scams are carried out by sophisticated criminals with elaborate set-ups, dealing in almost anything – gold bars, foreign currencies, beef production, birds' nest, organic fertiliser or fish farming, among others. "The victims of these scams come from all walks of life and include doctors, lawyers, judges, pilots and wealthy businessmen," said the senior official. "Victims fall prey easily because the scammers are so believable.

"These scammers have elaborate offices, wear designer clothes, drive luxurious cars and are often found mingling with high society," said the official. "Some of them actually own a farm, an orchard or a basic infrastructure for the products they are promoting and it is quite impossible to detect if they are genuine or fraud in the initial stages.

"They rope in investors from all walks of life, promising returns from 20% to 100%, and in some cases, even 300%. The official cited one company which went around collecting investments of between RM1,000 and RM5,000 per person for a real estate project, promising a 300% return on the investment. "Within one month, they raked in more than RM2 million in investments. But in reality, no real estate project existed.

"So if you are approached by your friends or relatives, or anyone promising unbelievably high returns for your investment, take note that the deal is often a scam," the official said. "In some cases, investors received their returns but the entire scheme is a Ponzi scheme where money from new investors is used to pay old investors.

"And when new investors stop coming in, the money runs out and the promoters of the scheme close shop. The official said in some cases, investors who receive their returns become greedy and re-invest in the scam before realising they have been conned, by which time it is too late. "Unless the investment scheme is licensed by Bank Negara or the Securities Commission, it is illegal and, therefore, provides no guarantee on the investment," he said.

Several investments schemes highlighted in the media recently include:

* A CEO of a company involved in livestock farming and beef production pleaded not guilty in the Seremban sessions court recently for illegal deposit-taking activities amounting to more than RM70 million within a period of eight months in 2008. Bank Negara officers raided the premises of Eastana Farm after complaints from the public that the company was allegedly collecting minimum investments of RM3,000 with promises of high returns;

* Several investors of a Macau-based casino investment scheme lost between RM1 million and RM4 million each in Penang last month. They were initially taken on paid holiday trips to Macau and given luxury watches as gifts but the perpetrators of the scheme eventually disappeared with the money.

*BNM already advise that they expected the scams will increase in 2010. Beware guys..!!!

"Badan saya menggigil dan dalam keadaan kelam-kabut itu terpaksa menjerit sekuat hati serta menumbuk bahu lelaki terbabit berkali-kali sebelum menyuruhnya berhenti," kata pelajar wanita Kolej Universiti Islam Melaka (Kuim), Norfadzilah Nazirah Ghazali, 18, ketika menceritakan detik cemas terselamat selepas beberapa minit dilarikan seorang daripada tiga penjenayah yang menyamun Toyota Wish dipandu bapanya, kira-kira jam 6.40 pagi semalam di depan Ozana Resort di sini.

Menurutnya, lelaki berusia 30-an itu dipercayai tidak menyedari dia duduk di bahagian belakang sebelum terkejut mendengar jeritannya lalu cuba merampas telefon bimbitnya. Namun, katanya, dia dapat merampas semula telefon itu selepas bergelut dan memukul bahu lelaki terbabit yang turut menjerit dan mengarahkannya supaya terjun dari kereta.

"Tergamam dengan tindakan lelaki itu, saya nekad terjun keluar apabila lelaki itu memperlahankan kereta dan menyuruh saya terjun," katanya ketika ditemui di rumahnya di Taman Seri Duyung, dekat sini, semalam. Menurutnya, kejadian itu menyebabkan dia trauma kerana berlaku pada hari ulang tahun kelahirannya dan sedang menduduki peperiksaan akhir semesta pertama di Kuim, Kuala Sungai Baru.

Sementara itu, bapanya, Ghazali Md Tion,44, kakitangan Petronas berkata, dia menyedari sebuah kereta mengekori rapat kenderaannya ketika memandu di Jalan Bukit Katil berhampiran simpang Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ), namun tidak mengesyaki apa-apa. "Kali pertama saya rasa seperti kereta dilanggar tetapi tidak berhenti kerana was-was. Saya meneruskan perjalanan dan sebaik tiba di depan Ozana Resort Bukit Katil, sekali lagi terasa kereta dilanggar tetapi lebih kuat.

"Saya berhenti untuk memeriksa kereta dan berbincang dengan pemandu Proton Wira dengan nombor pendaftaran MAU 3632 sebelum lelaki terbabit meminta saya membuat laporan polis atau menyelesaikan masalah itu di tempat kejadian sebelum dia terus meluru masuk dalam kereta dan memandu serta melarikan anak perempuan saya. "Saya terkejut dan cuba mengejar sebelum tersungkur dan luka di tangan dan muka," katanya.

Menurutnya, dalam keadaan kesakitan, dia cuba mengejar dan menjerit memanggil nama anaknya manakala Proton Wira yang dinaiki dua lelaki itu turut mengikut rakan mereka yang melarikan keretanya yang baru dibeli kira-kira 10 bulan lalu. "Saya bersyukur kerana anak saya terselamat dan tidak cedera. Hanya Allah tahu betapa bimbang saya apabila melihat anak perempuan saya dilarikan.

"Macam-macam perkara buruk terlintas dalam fikiran ketika itu dan saya tidak kisah hilang kereta kerana lebih penting nyawa anak saya selamat," katanya ketika ditemui di Hospital Melaka. Dia membuat laporan di Balai Polis Ayer Keroh berhubung kejadian itu.

CEO pleads not guilty to a charge of illegal deposit-taking

SEREMBAN: The chief executive officer of a company involved in livestock-farming and beef-production pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here to a charge of illegal deposit-taking activities. The charge involved a sum of more than RM70mil within a period of eight months in 2008.

Syed Shareezally Syed Aualadali, 39, who was then Eastana Farm Industries Sdn Bhd director, was charged with committing the offence between February and October at Taman Komersial Senawang, near here. Another company director A. Halim A. Rahman had already claimed trial to the same offence when he was charged on Dec 24. He was released on a RM400,000 bail.

According to the charge, Syed Shareezally allegedly accepted deposits from the public without first obtaining a licence from Bank Negara, as required under Section 6(4) of the Banking and Financial Institutions Act (Bafia) 1989. If found guilty, he is liable to a fine not exceeding RM10mil or imprisonment not exceeding 10 years, or both.

Halim’s case came up for re-mention yesterday and his counsel Zorah Jan Mohd Newaz appealed to the court to reduce bail as he had to fend for his family. However, Bank Negara prosecuting officer Mohd Shukri Ahmad Mansor asked the court to rescind Halim’s bail and not to issue bail for Syed Shareezally as the amount they allegedly collected illegally was too high.

Judge Zamri Bakar ordered bail for both the accused to be set at RM300,000 with one surety each and for them to surrender their passports to the court. KULIM: Some 3,000 people all over the country could have been cheated out of more than RM30mil by a company promising them yearly returns of more than 100% in a earthworm farming project to produce organic fertilisers.

More than 200 investors from the northern part of the country staged a peaceful demonstration outside the company premises in Jalan Lunas here yesterday, claiming that some 3,000 people were involved in the scheme. The company had closed down last week after it purportedly failed to pay the rent, which came up to about RM10,000.

Investor Shahibul Hidaya Haliman, 56, from Sungai Dua, Penang, said he had put in RM5,000 in August after being promised a monthly return of RM833.80 for a year. I went back to the company after the returns were not banked in as promised. They told me that there were some problems but assured me the money would be banked in soon. Until now, I have not received anything,” he said.

K. Jayakumar, 42, said he had gone to the company in June last year with a group of friends and invested a total of RM500,000. “I managed to get back about 30% of my investment while some of my friends did not get anything. I also received a RM11,000 cheque which bounced,” he said.

Retired headmaster Omar Ismail, 58, said he had invested RM100,000 between August and October, and although the returns were initially deposited into his bank account, this had stopped last month.

Meanwhile, two directors of Millenium Agrotec (M) Sdn Bhd, which was supposedly carrying out the earthworm farming on behalf of the company, Abdul Kader Omar and Mohd Faizal Mohd Noor said they had lodged police reports that their company’s letterhead had been used to collect investments.

KUALA LUMPUR: A chief executive who has been charged with money laundering is in more trouble — a police report has been lodged against him alleging fraud in a rental car investment scheme.

Some 70 people lodged the report against Noradz Travel and Services Sdn Bhd at the Ampang Jaya police station yesterday, claiming they did not receive dividends which were promised to them after investing thousands of ringgit in the scheme.

On Dec 22, the company’s chief executive Datuk Adzhar Sulaiman and his two daughters – Noradzma Adzhar and Noradzrin Adzhar – were charged in the Sessions Court here with 360 counts of money laundering amounting to RM60mil. Earlier in October, the company was raided by Bank Negara on suspicion of illegal deposit taking and money laundering.

According to investors, the company invited them to put in money and they were promised regular dividends.The victims said in a statement which was distributed to the press that they invested RM3,300 for a car. They had been promised monthly dividends of RM250 for each car. They claimed that the number of investors numbered in the thousands and most of them were bumiputras from all over the country.

They added that the investors were from all walks of life, including police officers, teachers, single mothers, villagers and orphanage houses. A victim, who only wanted to be known as Alai, 27, felt confident with the scheme because the company drew up an impressive agreement. “They showed pictures of the rented cars which were supposedly from our investments,” he said. Alai invested a total of RM48,000 since he started in 2007 and received dividends regularly until November last year when it stopped.

Another investor, clerk Siti Norazura Nazarudin, 24, from Seremban who had invested RM20,000 for 10 cars since 2005, said she contacted Adzhar the moment she learnt about the Bank Negara raid. “He said the investigation was only temporary and everything would be back to normal. He also paid my dividend with a cheque but the cheque bounced,” she said.

The investors said they learnt of the scheme through word of mouth. Those interested would be invited to attend seminars at luxury hotels. The scheme was also advertised in newspapers. The company also said they had agents nationwide to attract more investors.

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 29, 2009): Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz says he is against the proposal for single stream school system as "we cannot force other (non-Malay) races to sacrifice their characteristics and become Malays (Malaynised)".

What is more, he said, the 1Malaysia concept allows the non-Malays to use and preserve their languages."What we want is a united people and country, not forcing all races to become Malays (Malaynised).

"Chinese and Tamil primary schools can continue to to exist, as long as these schools teach Bahasa Malaysia as it is the national language with which (Malaysians of) various races communicate and interact with one another to promote unity."

Nazri, who is currently overseas, told Sin Chew Daily that Chinese and Tamil schools are not meant for only the Chinese and Indians respectively, the Malays can also enter these schools. Malay parents should encourage their children to study in Chinese schools to learn an additional language, he said.

"To acquire another language, be it Chinese, Tamil, Arabic, Japanese etc is to gain an advantage. "I am now in Chengdu, China, and because I don't speak Mandarin I feel I am at a disadvantage. "We should regard language as a subject and there are benefits to gain from learning additional languages. Education should not be racialised."

On writer/poet Eddin Khoo's remark that he missed the chance to learn Chinese because his father, historian Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Khoo Kay Kim who raised the ire of many with his single stream school remark recently, was too patriotic, Nazri said such thinking be discarded.

Nazri said the government cannot compel all the races to learn only Bahasa Malaysia, forcing the non-Malays to give up their own languages. "Malaysia is a multi-ethnic country where the various races enjoy the right to learn their own languages. Multi-culture and multi-lingual are the strong points of Malaysia, something which cannot be denied," he added.

PETALING JAYA, Dis 22 — Penggunaan istilah bak kut teh halal boleh mengelirukan umat Islam di samping bertentangan hukum syarak kerana bercanggah dengan kaedah fiqah yang ditetapkan oleh Islam.

Ketua Penolong Pengarah Jabatan Kemajuan Agama Islam Malaysia (Jakim) Lokman Abdul Rahman berkata, bak kut teh tidak boleh dianggap halal kerana ia masih mengekalkan penggunaan nama yang haram mengikut hukum Islam.

Sehubungan itu, beliau menegaskan, makanan itu tidak akan mendapat sijil halal berdasarkan prosedur yang ditetapkan oleh Jakim.

“Walaupun mereka mungkin akan membuat permohonan, Jakim tidak akan meluluskan makanan bak kut teh halal itu kerana sudah jelas ia tidak mengikut hukum yang telah ditetapkan di dalam Islam,” katanya.

Tegas beliau Jakim bimbang masyarakat Islam akan salah faham dengan membuat tanggapan bahawa makanan itu sudah halal dimakan jika Jakim memberi pengiktirafan halal.

A probe by The Malay Mail revealed that one particular device — known as the Toyota Key Maker (TKM) — can be easily purchased online.

The device, believed to be used by car thieves to whisk away cars of that popular Japanese make, is a legal device to duplicate keys for Toyota cars.

Other than online, you can even buy it at some workshops, authorised or otherwise, to neutralise the car's computer system that controls the alarm and ignition.

Police sources told The Paper That Cares that the device was among the assortment of car theft paraphernalia they seized from syndicates targetting Toyota cars.

Worker woes may hit palm oil earnings.

Malaysia could lose billions of ringgit in palm oil export earnings if a serious labour shortage in Sabah continues, industry officials say.

The plantation sector in Sabah, Malaysia's most productive palm oil producer, has seen its workforce fall by a fifth recently, Malaysian Palm Oil Association (MPOA) chief executive Datuk Mamat Salleh said.

Checks with plantation companies revealed that more than 10 sizeable oil palm estates in the state did not have enough workers because those who had gone home to Indonesia for the Hari Raya Puasa and Haji holidays did not come back.

The main reason was that estates in Kalimantan were paying the same wages offered in Sabah, Mamat said. "If foreign workers, comprising half of the 600,000 workforce in the palm oil industry, are reduced by 30 per cent, our country's palm oil export earnings could shrink as much as RM10 billion a year," he told Business Times in an interview.

Sabah produces seven million tonnes of palm oil a year, or 40 per cent of the national output. The palm oil industry earned a record RM65 billion in export earnings last year, thanks to high prices.

Two months ago, East Malaysia Planters' Association (Empa) chairman Othman Walat reportedly said that oil palm planters in Sabah and Sarawak might recruit workers from China, Bangladesh and the Philippines to make up for the shortage of Indonesian workers.

However, industry officials felt that it was easier said than done as other nationals did not prefer working on the estates, while Malaysians were under the mistaken assumption that the job did not pay well. "But plantations these days are offering productivity-based salaries. A harvester, for instance, can earn between RM1,500 and RM2,000 a month, depending on the quantity and quality of fruit bunches he harvests.

"A family of three working together can earn up to RM3,000," Othman said. Furthermore, the job offers housing, uninterrupted supply of electricity and piped water, medical, schooling and recreation facilities free of charge by the estate owners. These are now enjoyed by the foreign workers.

While, the MPOA understands and fully supports the government policy to employ more locals and enhance mechanised harvesting on the estates, the reality is far from expectations. Mamat said that young locals entering the labour market were just not interested in menial jobs like the harvesting of oil palm fruits.

"We do not want to be too dependent on foreign labour, but do we have any other feasible and practical alternatives?" he questioned.

IMAGINE yourself being the 27th caller in a queue waiting to talk to a customer relations or call centre representative for a service you want changed or cancelled. How would you react?

Lina (not her real name) could not believe her ears when told she was the 27th caller waiting. She just hung up, went online and changed her entertainment package.
It was not a smooth transaction online as the website was not customer-friendly but it was far better than waiting her turn on her mobile phone.
In another incident, Yap moaned and groaned while dialling 30 times to reach his bank over a 45-minute period before he eventually spoke to a customer care rep to sort out details of his credit card.

Thangam went ballistic and dialled a travel agent instead after six tries to an airline. “I was disgusted as this message – ‘your call is in the queue ...it is important to us...’” – repeated over and over. Can’t the person come online; why keep me waiting?” she asked.

These are just be a few incidents of disgruntled people that were trying to reach some organisations to air their grouses but getting your problems heard these days can be an unfruitful traipse around the mulberry bush.

Most often your challenge will be to get the organisation to answer, then you may have to press a dozen numbers and hold until someone is free to attend to your call. This can take a while if there are too few call reps and too many calls.

For companies that have opted for automated self-help transactions, the issue is having to press many numbers and should you hit a wrong number, you have to repeat the whole process. Besides the cost of making the calls, the customer suffers the loss of precious time while his patience is tested.

Is the automated world rendering it difficult to reach a human being who can attend to your query or handle your problem? While automated messages are good for simple transactions, you simply get irritated if you have to listen to “press 1 to ...10” to get to the right section and then press a sequence of a dozen or so other numbers to activate the self-help transaction.

Big words about customer care don’t mean a thing if the organisation has no time to listen and pushes customers to an automated self-serve system.

Outsourcing to call centres allows companies to save money and time and that’s fine if the service is up to the mark but not all transactions should be automated.

Companies should have more reliable platforms for consumers to air their grouses and minimise waiting time. In some cases, humans should replace automated systems for the personal touch as people like to talk to people, not machines.

Train the workforce as a rude rep can easily damage the image of a company as the rep is often the first touch point for any company.Most importantly, if companies want to have automated, self-serve transactions, make them simple. Devise a way for people to get connected faster and reach the point sooner than going a circuitous route.

Make customers wait once too often and you will succeed in driving them away.

It is called Sutchi and I saw many housewives snatching up the fish at supermarkets as they are really reasonably priced. ?The fish looks good but read the article and you will be shocked.

My colleague who deals with seafood confirmed that this is true. ?This product is from Vietnam and unless you know the right supplier which most of us won't, so be safe!

Industrially farmed in Vietnam along the Mekong River , Pangas or whatever they're calling it, has only been recently introduced to the French market. However, in a very short amount of time, it has grown in popularity in France . The French are slurping up Pangas like it's their last meal of soup noodles.

They are very, very affordable (cheap), are sold in filets with no bones and they have a neutral (bland) flavor and texture; many would compare it to cod and sole, only much cheaper. But as tasty as some people may find it, there's, in fact, something hugely unsavory about it. I hope the information provided here will serve as very important information for you and your future choices. Here's why I think it is better left in the shops (and not on your dinner plates):

1. Pangas are teeming with high levels of poisons and bacteria. ( industrial effluents, arsenic, and toxic and hazardous by-products of the growing industrial sector, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), DDT and its metabolites (DDTs), metal contaminants, chlordane-related compounds (CHLs), hexachlorocyclohexane isomers (HCHs), and hexachlorobenzene (HCB).

The reasons are that the Mekong River is one of the most polluted rivers on the planet and this is where pangas are farmed and industries along the river dump chemicals and industrial waste directly into it. To Note: a friend lab tests these fish and tells us to avoid eating them due to high amounts of contamination. Regardless of the reports and recommendations against selling them, the supermarkets still sell them to the general public knowing they are contaminated.

2. They freeze Pangas in contaminated river water..

3. Pangas are not environmentally sustainable, a most unsustainable food you could possibly eat - 'Buy local' means creating the least amount of environmental harm as possible. This is the very opposite end of the spectrum of sustainable consumerism. Pangas are raised in Vietnam . Pangas are fed food that comes from Peru ( more on that below ), their hormones ( which are injected into the female Pangas ) come from China . ( More about that below ) and finally, they are transported from Vietnam to France . That's not just a giant carbon foot print, that's a carbon continent of a foot print.

4. There's nothing natural about Pangas - They're fed dead fish remnants and bones, dried and ground into a flour, from South America , manioc ( cassava ) and residue from soy and grains. This kind of nourishment doesn't even remotely resemble what they eat in nature. But what it does resemble is the method of feeding mad cows ( cows were fed cows, remember? ). What they feed pangas is completely unregulated so there are most likely other dangerous substances and hormones thrown into the mix. The pangas grow at a speed light ( practically! ) : 4 times faster than in nature…so it makes you wonder what exactly is in their food? Your guess is as good as mine.

5. Pangas are Injected with Hormones Derived from Urine - I don't know how someone came up with this one out but they've discovered that if they inject female Pangas with hormones made from the dehydrated urine of pregnant women, the female Pangas grow much quicker and produce eggs faster ( one Panga can lay approximately 500,000 eggs at one time ). Essentially, they're injecting fish with hormones ( they come all of the way from a pharmaceutical company in China ) to speed up the process of growth and reproduction. That isn't good. Some of you might not mind eating fish injected with dehydrated pee, so if you don't, good for you, but just consider the rest of the reasons to NOT eat it..

6. You get what you pay for - and then some. Don't be lured in by insanely cheap price of Pangas. Is it worth risking your health and the health of your family?

7. Buying Pangas supports unscrupulous, greedy evil corporations and food conglomerates that don't care about the health and well-being of human beings. They only are concerned about selling as many pangas as possible to unsuspecting consumers. These corporations only care about selling and making more money at whatever cost to the public..

8. Pangas will make you sick - If ( for reasons in #1 above ) you don't get immediately ill with vomiting, diarrhea and effects from severe food poisoning, congratulations, you have an iron stomach! But you're still ingesting POISON not poisson.

Final important note: Because of the prodigious amount of availability of Pangas, be warned that they will certainly find their way into other foods: surimi ( those pressed fish things, imitation crab sticks ), fish sticks, fish terrines, and probably in some pet foods. ( Warn your dogs and cats and hamsters and gerbils and even your pet fish! )

So, when you do your next round of shopping of frozen fish or eating out at cafes / food stalls by choosing fish-&-chips, think twice !!

NGO: Palm oil industry highly sustainable in developing economies

PETALING JAYA: Palm oil, which accounts for 60% of the global vegetable oil trade, has come under fire from Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth. The non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are pressuring processors and consumers to boycott the oil and European Union (EU) governments to block its import based on the contention that palm oil damages the environment.

But, according to a report by World Growth entitled Palm Oil – The Sustainable Oil, palm oil uses less land than crop-based oilseeds.

“Only 0.26ha is required to produce a tonne of palm oil while soybean, sunflower and rapeseed need 2.2ha, 2ha and 1.5ha respectively to produce the same amount of oil,” said the report.

The proposed restriction may also hurt the export trade of developing countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia that collectively produce 87% of the world’s palm oil.

The report said the palm oil industry was a highly sustainable development tool in the economies of many developing countries.

World Growth chairman Alan Oxley said the campaign by environmental groups to prevent conversion of forest land to other more productive purposes would deny developing countries the opportunity to use palm oil as a development tool.

“The World Bank and the Asian Development Bank have rated palm oil in Indonesia and Malaysia respectively as a very high quality development tool for reducing poverty,” he told StarBiz via email.

In Malaysia, the world’s second largest palm oil producer, the industry currently employed 570,000 people with export earnings of more than RM68bil last year, said the report.

World Growth said the EU import demand for palm oil had also grown as some countries there had resorted to using it as a feedstock for bio-diesel production.

“But the proposed EU Renewable Energy Directive includes a condition that will restrict the availability of palm oil,” it said.

On the industry’s impact on the environment, the report said it had not destroyed forests’ biodiversity in developing countries.

“For example, palm oil is restricted to only 20% of the total land in Malaysia allocated for agricultural purposes.

“And in Indonesia, palm oil is only cultivated in areas set aside for commercial production,” it said.

Oxley added that biodiversity in forests was protected by establishing forest conservation areas which contained representative strands of natural forests, not by imposing a blanket ban on conversion of forest land for other purposes.

“And well-managed oil palm plantations are more effective in absorbing greenhouse gases than natural forests,” he said.

Moreover, said the report, the technical understanding of carbon footprint of oil palm, other plantations and forest industries was still weak.

Effective 1 Sept 2009, RON95 petrol grade will be officially introduced nationwide. All petrol stations are getting ready, in fact many petrol stations have already started selling RON95.

Meanwhile, RON92 will be phased out. Previously, the petrol consumers normally fill-in our car is RON97, which is priced RM1.80 per liter. Starting Sept 1, RON97 will be sold at RM2.00, twenty cents more than today’s price and RON97 is reclassified as premium fuel.

Consumers are then offered RON95, RM1.75 per liter as alternative. Most likely, most of them will then switch to RON95 for their car since they do not want to increase their petrol spending by 20 cents more per liter, which translate into 10% additional petrol expenses in their monthly petrol budget.

What is the impact of lower grade petrol to our car?

RON actually an acronym for Research Octane Number. Industry uses RON to measure petrol resistance to self-igniting in the combustion chamber before spark-plug ignites. “Engine-knocking” happens when fuel combusts prematurely before spark-plug ignites, resulting in loss of power and could possibly damage the engine over time.

Car manufacturers do specify minimum RON requirement for their cars. It is important that consumers confirm this by checking car owner’s manual. SHAH ALAM, Fri: A company director was charged in the Sessions Court here today with 47 counts of money laundering involving over RM11 million. Raja Noor Asma Raja Harun, 47, from Taman Desa Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read out to her by a court interpreter before judge Hasbi Hasan.

Raja Noor Asmah is accused of laundering between RM5,000 and RM3 million in 47 transactions involving money from various companies including Sistem Televisyen Malaysia (TV3). She is alleged to have committed the offences at several banks in Rawang and Gombak near here between Dec 17, 2008 and July 8 last year. She has been charged under Section 4(1)(a) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Prevention of Terrorism Act 2001, which provides for a maximum fine of RM5 million or jail not more than five years or both, if convicted. Hasbi set bail at RM500,000 in one surety and also ordered the accused to surrender her passport to the court.

The court, however, allowed defence counsel Datuk Muhammad Shafee Abdullah's application to allowed the accused to post bail by Tuesday. Hasbi then ordered the case to be re-mentioned before Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court judge S. M. Komathy Suppiah on Tuesday, following an application by Deputy Public Prosecutor G. Jaya Prem and Securities Commission prosecution officer Jeremy Phang, who appeared for the prosecution. The prosecution wanted the case to be transferred to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court so that it could be tried together with two other cases involving the accused.

On Dec 17 last year, Raja Noor Asma was charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with four counts of cheating and carrying out capital market services involving investments totalling RM100 million without a licence, and was released on bail of RM300,000 in two sureties. On July 16, she was again charged in the same court with three counts of money laundering involving RM5,302,142.93, but was allowed to use the bail she had posted for the Dec 17 2008 case to remain free pending the trial.

Facemasks are controlled item till A(H1N1) pandemic ends

PUTRAJAYA (Aug 19, 2009) : Facemasks to help prevent the spread of the infuenza A (H1N1) virus has become a price-controlled item, according to Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The wholesale maximum price of a box of One-Ply ear loop (100 pieces) is RM5 while the retail price is RM7. For a box of Two-Ply ear loop, the maximum price is RM8 while the retail price is RM10 or 20 sen a piece.

"For Three-Ply ear loop, the wholesale maximum price is RM25 a box (50 pieces) while the retail is 80 sen a piece. The maximum price for a Three-Ply tie-on is RM30 a box (50 pieces) and the retail is 80 sen per unit," added Ismail.

The maximum wholesale price for a box of 20 N95 masks is RM100 while the retail price is RM6 a unit. However, the minister reminded consumers that the health ministry advised against using the 'One-Ply' and 'Two-Ply' surgical masks as they are ineffective to prevent the spread of H1N1.

According to Ismail, the ministry could take action under the Price Control Act 1946 where individuals found guilty could be fined up to RM15,000 or jailed up to two years, or both. Recalcitrant companies can be fined up to RM25,000

Six die of ammonia poisoning

TANJUNG KARANG: Six people, including a store manager who tried to save a Bangladeshi worker, died from inhaling ammonia that leaked from a faulty refrigeration system at a jetty in Kampung Bagan Pasir here. Three other Bangladeshi workers who also suffered from the gas leak have been warded at the Tanjung Karang Hospital.

Manager Lim Kian Chew, 35, collapsed after pulling out a Bangladeshi worker who had fainted while working inside a makeshift cooler tank that was used to store fish. Four other Bangladeshi workers, who joined Lim’s relative Kim Son, 58, and two of his neighbours, Sia Liang Huat, 33, and Gan Ayong, 30, in responding to calls for help, also died in the 8am incident yesterday.
The noxious ammonia was being used as a refrigerant in the cooler tank.

AMMONIA is a colourless, highly irritating gas with a pungent, suffocating odour. Eighty per cent of ammonia produced by industry is used in agriculture as fertiliser. Ammonia is also used as a refrigerant gas, which was the case in yesterday’s incident in Tanjung Karang where six people died after a leak at a refrigeration facility. Other uses of ammonia are to purify water and in the manufacture of plastics, explosives, textiles, pesticides, dyes and other chemicals. It is also found in many household and industrial-strength cleaning solutions.

How ammonia kills

Ammonia acts immediately upon contact with any available moisture in the skin, eyes, respiratory tract, and particularly mucous surfaces to form the very corrosive ammonium hydroxide. Ammonium hydroxide leads to cellular destruction, causing cell proteins to break down, resulting in inflammation.

Inhalation of lower concentrations can cause coughing, and nose and throat irritation. Exposure to high concentrations of ammonia causes an immediate burning of the nose, throat and respiratory tract. This can result in respiratory distress or failure. Ammonia’s odour is highly noticeable due to its stench but it also causes olfactory (smelling) fatigue or adaptation, reducing awareness of one’s prolonged exposure at low concentrations.

Permatang Pasir by-election: polling day on Aug 25

PUTRAJAYA (Aug 10, 2009): The Election Commission (EC) decided today that nomination for the Permatang Pasir by-election in Penang will be held on Aug 17, followed by polling on Aug 25.
It also decided to strictly enforce the law by not allowing any form of campaigning or canvassing of votes on polling day, including the setting up of pondok panas by political parties.

Announcing this, EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the decision was made based on the bitter experience in Manek Urai last month, when fights had erupted among party supporters. Abdul Aziz showing the map of Permatang Pasir."According to the Elections Offences Act 1954, there should not be any campaigning activities on polling day, but we gave some flexibility in previous elections like in Penanti and Manek Urai.

"This was because the political parties involved gave their word that there would not be any untoward incidents," he told a press conference at the EC headquarters today. The Permatang Pasir state seat fell vacant when its assemblyman Datuk Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman from PAS died on July 31. Abdul Aziz said the police will helping the EC to enforce the law and those found guilty may face action of up to one year's jail or RM5,000 fine, or both. He said he was 97% confident that those involved will adhere to the law this time around as the election will be held on the fourth day of the fasting month.

"I hope political leaders will play their role to observe the law and advise their supporters accordingly," he said, adding that this is not the first time a by-election is being held during Ramadan -- previous cases were Lunas by-election in 2000 and Sabah state election in 1994.
"Hopefully, as it is the fasting month, they will not go overboard with their campaigns and refrain from doing anything negative," he added. Abdul Aziz added that out of respect for the fasting month, the EC has decided to announce the election results at 8pm sharp, once finalised, without waiting for matters which are not required under the law.

"In order to allow Muslims to carry out their Terawih prayers and such, we have set the time to announce the result. We will do it at 8pm even without the presence of the winner. "We do not want to be late just because we have to wait for unnecessary things like the presence of agents, candidates or political leaders," he added. Asked why the EC decided on an early date for this by-election, he said the decision was made based on the fact that it has until Sept 29 (60 days after seat feel vacant) to hold the election.

"We will be in the fasting month soon, then we will have the Hari Raya Puasa. The time is not right to have all these things. So, we want to resolve everything as soon as possible in the fasting month," he said. Abdul Aziz said the electoral roll to be used for the by-election is the Master Electoral Roll 2008 combined with the Supplementary Roll for the first quarter of 2009, which has been updated until July 31. It will be sold beginning Aug 14.

It has 20,290 registered voters including one postal voter, and the breakdown of voters is 72.36% Malay, 25.85% Chinese, 1.63% Indian and 0.16% others. Seberang Prai Tengah district officer Roslan Yahaya has been appointed as the returning officer, to be assisted by three officers. A total 423 EC personnel will be involved in the by-election which the EC estimates it has to spend about RM550,000.

The nomination centre and main tallying centre will be at the Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara in Bukit Mertajam. Eight schools will be used as polling centres with 39 streams. Meanwhile, asked as to EC’s precautionary measures against Influenza A (H1N1) during polling day which involves a lot of people, Abdul Aziz said they will seek the advice and views from state health director on what should be done. "At the EC level, we have asked our officers who will be dealing with the public and voters to wear masks," he added.

Genting CEO made RM77.7mil last year

GENTING Bhd chairman and chief executive Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay is the highest income earner among chief executives of public listed companies – earning RM77.7mil in 2008 despite a 10% pay cut.

Nanyang Siang Pau reported that he also topped the list in 2007 with RM86.5mil. According to the daily’s calculation, Lim earns around RM212,800 a day.

In his capacity as Genting Malaysia executive chairman and chief executive, Lim is in third place with an annual income of RM37.25mil in 2008, compared with RM41.5mil in 2007.

In second place is IOI Corporation Bhd executive chairman Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng, with an annual income of RM41.15mil, almost doubling his 2007 income of RM21.6mil. Lee, in his capacity as executive chairman of IOI Property, came in sixth with an income of RM8.6mil following a 67% pay rise.

Union wants monthly wages for estate workers

THE National Union of Plantation Workers has called for a monthly pay scheme for estate workers, reported Tamil Nesan. Union secretary-general Datuk G. Sangkaran said the Government should implement a monthly salary scheme for estate workers and also the possibility of giving monthly pension upon their retirement.

Speaking to reporters after attending the Labour Day celebrations in Petaling Jaya on Sunday, Sangkaran said that previously, estate workers were given free water and electricity but now these expenses had to be borne by the workers themselves. Tamil Nesan also reported that the MIC wanted the Education Ministry to consider making moral education an optional subject in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examinations.

This is to enable Indian students to sit for the Tamil Language and Tamil Literature papers. Party secretary-general and Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramanian said Indian students in the science stream would have to miss the Tamil language or Tamil literature subjects if the 10-subject limit takes effect.He suggested that students be given the option of either taking up moral education or Tamil literature subjects in the examinations.

48. PROGRAM FORCED MATRIX

Ini pula skim piramid yang dijalankan di internet secara terang-terangan. Tetapi ramai yang tertipu dengan perkataan "forced matrix" yang digunakan, konon-kononnya, ianya adalah sebuah program yang canggih, maklumlah namanya pun sudah canggih. Hakikatnya, ianya adalah skim piramid. Di dalam program forced matrix ni, mangsa dikehendaki membayar duit sebagai ahli dan kemudiannya mencari 2-10 orang untuk dijadikan downline mereka.

Mereka akan menyusun 5 orang pada level 1 dibawah mereka, setelah lengkap level 1 dengan 5 orang mangsa, maka mangsa yang ke-6 akan diletakkan di level ke-2 pula, pada level kedua ini, mereka perlu mencari seramai 25 orang mangsa. Begitulah seterusnya, semakin banyak level, semakin banyaklah mangsa yang diperlukan. Apa yang ahli-ahli program forced matrix ini tidak sedar ialah, program ini sebenarnya akan menjadi tepu pada level yang ke-13, itu pun jika seluruh penduduk dunia menyertainya.

Tetapi, selalunya, ia akan tepu pada level yang ke 6 & 7. Mengapa? sebabnya.. tidak ramai orang-orang yang "*****" di internet yang mahu menyertai program-program seperti ini. Yang peliknya, mereka yang kurang bijak yang menyertai skim ini akan berkata "Tidak mengapa! Kita perlu berusaha dengan lebih kuat lagi mempromosikan program ini, insyallah... segala usaha kita akan berhasil!"... Usaha apanya? Program dah tepu... nak usaha apa lagi?

NOTA: "Selagi kita tidak bijak menggunakan otak, selagi itulah orang-orang yang suka mengambil peluang atas kelemahan orang-orang kita dengan ‘wang' menggunakan taktik tersebut tetapi menukarkan cara dan modus operandinya supaya kelihatan ‘halal'. 34. BNM raids Asia Ceramic Marketing premises

KUALA LUMPUR (July 23, 2009): Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has raided Asia Ceramic Marketing Sdn Bhd's premises here following complaints received from members of the public. The central bank said in a statement today that it was investigating the company under Section 25(1) Banking and Financial Institutions Act 1989 (Bafia) and Section 4 (1) of Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 (Amlatfa).

Section 25(1) of Bafia 1989 prohibits any person from receiving, taking, or accepting deposits without a valid licence while Section 4(1) of Amlatfa 2001 prohibits any person from engaging in, or attempting to engage in, or abetting the commission of money laundering activities."Relevant assets and documents of the company were seized for the purpose of investigation," BNM said.It also reminded the public to be cautious of deposit taking and investment schemes offered through various channels such as the internet, phone calls or seminars conducted by individuals or companies not licensed or approved by the relevant authorities.

Syarikat ini adalah salah satu company securities yang agak tersohor di malaysia..tapi banyak laporan penipuan yg berasal daripadanya telah tersebar.Kaedahya, syarikat mengiklankan perlu kereta 4WD untuk escort.. Pihak yg terlibat menyatakan ada surat perjanjian bersumpah lagi..

Seorang peserta melaporakan pada 31/3/08 bahawa beliau telah mengeluarkan 30K personal loan dan membuat 2 lagi loan kereta untuk mengeluarkan kereta Ford Ranger berharga RM90,000 sebuah sebanyak 3 buah, dengan dijanjikan payment RM3500 setiap bulan utuk setiap kereta selama 5 tahun.Setelah kereta 4WD diperolehi, syarikat memperkudakan kenderaan2 tsb tetapi gagal membuat bayaran yg dijanjikan.

On 5 March 2009, Bank Negara Malaysia raided Walton International Property Group (M) Sdn Bhd under the Exchange Control Act (ECA) 1953. The raids were simultaneously conducted at the premises of the company in Kuala Lumpur (W. Persekutuan), Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) and Kuching ( Sarawak ) following complaints received from members of the public. Relevant documents of the company were seized for purpose of the investigation.

A Company named Visible is using MLM to sell fortune telling classes using your birthday based on numerology fortune telling. Prpspects will be told that they need to buy a certain "number" between 1 to 9 in the form of pendants or bracelets made of stainless steel and sold from RM600 to RM20,000. Customers, or rather victims are mostly females from rural areas. Very hot in Penang now and a number of spin-off Companies have started.

12. MJ - LIFE

MJ-Life - This Company boost of a very big background with many many years of history which is NOT true. Their people or associates may be long in business but nothing to do with their MLM launched recently. Why do I consider it a scam or bad? New members are told to pay a sum of money (up to RM1000) and you get NOTHING for it.
You only get a membership can entitle you to enjoy all sorts of special price and discounts when you have medical check-ups in their centres.. They will claim all those check-ups cost more if done elsewhere. It's not true. Only the naive and those new to medical check-ups will fall victims to them. Most members who paid the money ended up with nothing.

13. SEAWEED VENTURE SCAMS

1 such Company is located in Taman Maluri, Cheras. They will ask you to invest a few thousands ringgits for their venture of growing seaweeds in East Malaysia and you are guaranteed returns. To gain your confidence further, they will tell you your investment money is secured by "insurance" or "unit trusts" & "trustees". When you ask for further documents to prove, they will give all sorts of excuses or just ignore you because they know they cannot get you. These Seaweed scam is one of the hottest now, warn all your friends about it before they are victimised.

14. MXM (Previously MGM)

This is a master scam among the younger group, very successful 2 or 3 years ago but since there moved to their big 10-storey office at Phileo Damansara and changed name to MXM, their business dropped. They collect members RM3,000 to RM4,000 with credit card monthly easy payment and in return you get a hospital benefits insurance from Pacific Insurance worth only a few hundred RMs together with some you-don't-need medical check-ups from their associate Company Pathlab. Also talk about fitness, lifestyles bullshit that is all worthless.

15. GANO EXCEL

This company from the north, a copycat of DXN selling Lingzhi capsules created a new Company called Gano iTouch to cash-in on the internet like e-Cosway after their Company went down the drain since the last 2 years, selling Linzhi and some no-value energy pendants and alkaline water gadgets. They provide free transport every weekend from KL to visit their Alor Star office.

16. NU LIFE (HK)

This Company started by some HK people has been in Malaysia for more than 10 years but they have flopped in HK and Malaysia due to bad management and a product scam making use of a prosecuted American named Dr Jeffrey Bland, found guilty of false products claim. Since this case in the US leaked out and many Malaysians found out that the real boss in HK is a Steven Tang (he cheated many Malaysians in another scheme about 20 years ago) their business went down all the way. Now they claim Malaysian partners cheated them and start a new Company in Malaysia . Watch out, this new Company will come out with some investment scheme idea that will get many to lose their money.

17. AROWANA FISH BREEDING

Oora from Germany , Biofuel (Kompleks Maluri) etc - These are some newer scams. Arowana fish venture ask you to invest some money and give you fixed return. Biofuel will tell you their Indonesia connections (just like Sunshine Empire before using Taiwan) & Oora from Germany(I never trust those cruel Germans) that market some bio-chips and a gadget that claims to give energy and therapeutic effects of accupunture, tai-chi, yoga, etc depending how you set the toy-like gadget, wear it on your body and you get the effect later.

They could not explain or provide any demonstration to prove their effectiveness. Only doctors and papers claim that I will never trust. The health effect is actually PLACEBO, which I will elaborate in a different thread.

Peserta projek dianggarkan seramai 15000 orang. Khabarnya, masa mula beli dulu sebatang RM330. ikut perjanjian lepas 15 tahun peserta boleh jual balik kepada syarikat dgn harga semasa di tolak upah penjagaan, selebihnya peserta akan dapat keuntungan bersih..

Diwar2kan akan di listing kan di second board BSKL, tetapi gagal mendapat approval setelah SC mendapati cara pengumpulan modalnya melalui kutipan dari orang awam (yg menjadi ahli) yg dianggap menyalahi peraturan SC.Khabarnya, wang pelabur Akar Koperat dilabur dlm penanaman pokok jati mas dan pembelian hartanah atas nama peribadi mastermind AKAR KOPERAT dan kaum kerabatnya. Akar Koperat tutup, dibuka pula Konsortium Pemasaran Produk Muslim Bersatu.

Semasa nak tarik pelabur menyertai Konsortium PPMB, dia senaraikan hartatanah bernilai lebih darpada RM 5 juta sebagai jaminan. 1. THE CAFE SCAMS - Island Red Cafe & Stevens Corner(strange, both in Pandan Indah)

Island Red Cafe collects members RM6,000 each and promised 5% return every month and even give you a name in the ROC as a shareholder but what's the point when they run away? Stevens Corner, the famous indian coffee shop follows due to drop of business since their renovation. They collect RM3,000 per member and promise return of RM150 monthly and plans to open nice fanchisee cafe called StevensTeaGarden.

Someone mentioned they will make you sign an agreement that give them the rights NOT to pay you anything in future. If you really wish to join, ask for a copy of their agreement and consult your lawyer BEFORE paying them. Bet you will NOT get a copy. Both collect monies from new members with MLM recruitment schemes and pay the old members like Sunshine Empire. You never know when they will run away.

2. SUNSHINE EMPIRE

This licensed and legal Company has an impressive office at the ground level of KUB building along Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, near Menara Public Bank and AmBank Building . They also have a showroom office at the ground level in the next building. 3 or 4 months ago, Singapore's Straits Times and The Paper published big news reminding their people to be careful and NOT to believe in them. Hope someone can put up the link or> google for it.(As expected, they STOPPED paying back members now and all investors LOST their money).

Someone below has put a link to the Singapore news. In fact there are more to it. Although Singapore is investigating them, they did not stop their business as the business is legal and so far, no Singaporean have failed to receive their commissions as promised. Thus, the government cannot stop them yet. The news published that the founder, director and group president is someone named James Phang but he is NOT the owner. Isn't this quite strange ?

At the end of the game, James Phang can just disappear from the Company easily and claimed that he was just "employed". Such trick always happened in scam businesses. Now, the Company has STOPPED paying commissions and interests to members with the excuse that the Singapore government has freezed their bank account while under investigation. Do you think their boss will be so stupid to keep much monies in the bank to be freezed? They are all transfered away.

It's just an excuses not to> pay back to members and members are only paid "e-bonus-points" which is cashless. If they wish to> convert to cash, they have to recruit new members to pay them cash and the recruiter less out trom the amount. So victims act like Vampires and "forced" to victimise other victims if they wish to get their monies back. And their victims will later transform to vampires and the scam carries on…..

3. MOBILWALLET

This Company owned by 2 young men, Stanley & Rey Gan, office in Queens Avenue Park has collect multi-millions the last 2 years. Claimed that they tied up with Telekoms, Utility Board payment like Water & Electricity bills, even Maybank got fooled by them. Advertisement Billboards everywhere.

They STOPPED paying back their members few months ago and the members cannot do anything because they are made to sign an agreement unaware that they have to claims if the company stopped paying them by CHANGING terms and policies.

4. WATER BUSINESS

Oxygenated and Alkaline Water ProductsSome of these are bottled water and some are filters or equipment that claimed the trick..One of the better known Company that sold "oxygen" water is SITO (supposed to stand for Selangor International Trading Organiszation and claimed Selangor State Government owned some share in it).

The key person and founder is a Dato Robert Ong from Rawang but his name is no longer in the business now. Their products are sold for RM2 to RM3 for a 350ml bottle and now concentrating mostly in the Indian market. Their Chinese and Malays market are long gone since a year or 2 ago. Their customers are made to believe that their water has more oxygen and able to give miraculous effects for the body. Water is H2O, how to put more O into it ? Anyone knows how much oxygen do we breathe into our body everyday at FOC ?

Latest news is that this SITO Company is going to create new label to market under a new Company since the SITO name has already gone bad. Someone informed that this Company is owing alot of money(due to refunds) to ex-stockists but just refuse to pay them. (Latest news, SITO shifted to another place and their MLM business has closed but planning to start again with a different name, beware!!)Alkaline Products - Can anyone explain how it can work for the body ? The stomach's gastric liquid is so acidic that water of any pH that goes through it will not make any difference.

5. CAR FUEL BOOSTER - K-Link

K-Link, the famous scam MLM Company that sold the footpatch TAKARA, later the "cock-ring" and energy-card launched the patrol-saving pills last year. Got so hot that even grocery shops are selling for them. Recently many of these cars that used the pills are rushing to the workshops to clean the residual. Few months ago, another MLM Company launched a fuel booster gadget, claimed that saves up to 20% fuel, that is attached to the cigarette lighter. Started off well using binary plan but businese begin to fade now and most users find it NOT effective.

6. PERFUMERY PRODUCTS (eg. Lampe Berger & Bel Air)(more details later).

Lampe Berger is not so hot now in the neighbouring countries but there are still new victims every month in Malaysia . Must thanks to those who have contributed and kept the thread alive here in Kopitiam. Bel-Air have closed in Malaysia . LB is almost zero in Singapore .

This perfumery product from France with over 100 years history is just bottles and fragrance (check the factory's website) but the Company marketing them in Asia claimed "aromatheraphy" products. Hong Kong TVB aired a program that exposed their scam but their members claimed that HK's TVB already apologised to them. Note that the biggest strenght in a MLM Scam is their members will go all way out to lie in order to defend for their Company.

The reason is simple; these members fear that they will not be able to make their money back if the Company collapsed. Knowing that the Lampe Berger products are moving slow, they add a line of skincare products named Estebel, also claime to have over 100 years history in France. (Hardly anymore Chinese newcomers, they are now tapping the Malays in Malaysia.)

7. ENERGY PRODUCTS (eg. stone pendants, bracelets, mattress and pillows).

They use all sorts of gimmicks and demonstration to make you into believing them. They will do some tricks and demo to prove that these products really produce energy BUT is there any tricks in their demo? So what if there really produce energy; is it good or strong enough to help the body? The effect is actually PLACEBO which I will elaborate in a new thread soon. (More details later.)

8. Hi-TECH PRODUCTS

Names like bio-tech, nano-tech that claimed millions of dollars of research involved, eg Bio-Young and XKL few years ago. Most of these will claimed a professor behind them (even with name and picture of a person) or used words like "U.S.A. formula", "German Technology" or "Nanotechnology" and no further details (more details later). If you ask for more details like the professor or factory's address, the answer will be "trade secrets".

9. INVESTMENT SCHEMES - SWISS CASH

SWISSCASH is the King of all. Swisscash is nearly over now but there are many similar and smaller ones that are still on. (Now, it's closed or stopped paying back members.)

10. GOLD QUEST

This Company that claimed to be HK-based started with some non-value gold-plated coins that are sold for over RM2,000 have several names and changed products several times. QuestVacation, QuestNet, etc. They have several offices in Amcorp Mall, PJ and their key person (in fact, the owner), a Malaysian Indian was arrested last year in Indonesia for having involved in a very big Phillipines scam.

Most of their overseas offices are closed or inactive but their Malaysia business is still hot, with some "energy" products. (Can someone please provide a link which showed the news that their boss was involved in a big scam in Philippines and was arrested in last year?)

BACHOK, July 31 -- Bob is only six years old, but his body weight has reached almost 1,100 kilogrammes surpassing the weight of an elephant calf.Bob is a Charolais bull that has brought good tidings to its owner Mohd Juharani Jaafar, 26, of Kampung Permatang Pasir, Gunong, Bachok who said the sire from United States has recorded impressive growth, gaining 480 grammes daily.

"When I first acquired Bob he was two months old and the body weight was more than 300 kilogrammes, the normal body weight of the Charolais calf that is known to grow fast and reach huge size."I use to see the difference clearly everyday but I never thought Bob can reach 1,100 kilogrammes by the age of six," he told Bernama.

RECOGNISED AS THE BIGGEST BULL IN MALAYSIA

A butcher was surprised to see Bob's massive figure and told Mohd Juharani that Bob's meat can provide serving for almost 10,000 people.Going back in time, Mohd Juharani in the 1990s owned 80 cattle and six years ago he bought Bob from a relative in Chieng Mai, Thailand, at a cost of RM5,400.It never crossed his mind that Bob would one day would be the centre of attention due to his extraordinary size and the Kelantan Veterinary Department has given Bob the recognition as the biggest bull in Malaysia.

A nationwide check conducted by the department confirmed that there is no other Charolais sire that can outdo Bob who has also raised eyebrows among cattle breeders in the country."I was told that the Charolais breed is rare in this country, even the existing ones are limited to Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu. That is why Bob holds the honour as the biggest bull in the country," he said.

THE POPULAR BOB IS A FIERCE GUY

Mohd Juharani, the bachelor who lives with his family in Kampung Permatang Pasir, related that the family home is often filled with visitors who come to see and pose for pictures with Bob.Nonetheless, unlike other domesticated animals that are often tame Bob has got a temper and will bellow loudly when strangers come close to him.Even when one touches the fencing of his enclosure, Bob will whip his tail and put up a menacing face. An that is why it is best to stay away from Bob's enclosure.

"Its typical of Bob, his mood swings, at times he is OK but at times he throws tantrum. Though popular, he is not very friendly with people," explained Mohd Juharani while stroking gently Bob's back.However, Bob is close to his master and hardly goes against him.When Mohd Juharani asked Bob to sit down, and then get up, Bob followed the instruction though he had some difficulty in getting up.

BOB IS EASY TO TAKE CARE

Those coming to take a look at Bob often ask Mohd Juharani whether he feared Bob with his huge figure and sharp pointing horns.Despite the menacing look, Bob has never posed threat to Mohd Juharani.It is not difficult to take care of Bob, whether in feeding or taking care of him."Bob is a wonderful bull, he knows his owner, he has never hurt me, though he gets enraged fast, he never show his anger to his master."Each day he needs 50 kilogrammes of grass that is planted at the back of the house and five kilogrammes of fodder that costs RM20," he said.In ensuring Bob's cleanliness, especially when looking at the number of visitors that he receives, Bob is cleaned up three to four times a day.

PLAYING CUPID FOR BOB

Mohd Juharani is also looking for a suitable partner to help Bob breed.There are plans to acquire 10 breeding cattle early next year.However, to find a breeding partner similar to Bob's size may not be easy and if there is no suitable candidate available assistance will be sought from the Veterinary Services Department to conduct artificial insemination.

NO PLANS TO SELL BOB

Mohd Juharani who now owns a cafe in Terengganu though busy attending to his business is still close to Bob and has no plans to sell the bull even if he is offered a good price."Now Bob is under my father's care, Jaafar Mat Amin, as I have to take care of my cafe in Terengganu."No matter how busy I am, I never forget Bob, each week I will return to see Bob and I have no plans to part company with him and in fact I am proud that I own him," he said adding that he is lucky to own the great Bob.

Permatang Pasir assemblyman dies

GEORGE TOWN: Penang state assemblyman for Permatang Pasir Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman died at the National Heart Centre in Kuala Lumpur Friday morning. He died at 6.10am.
Mohd Hamdan, a two term state assemblyman and former Penang Pas commissioner, was 60.
He leaves behind a wife and six children.

A Penang government spokesman said Mohd Hamdan's body is expected to arrive in his constituency Friday afternoon and buried there.
In the general election in 2008, Mohd Hamdan beat Umno candidate Ahmad Sahar Shuib with a majority 5,433 majority to win the seat.

53 goats with forged papers seized

PADANG BESAR: The Padang Besar Anti-Smuggling Unit (UPP) seized 53 goats worth RM32,000 from a lorry at Felcra Lubuk Sireh, Kaki Bukit, near here on Tuesday.

State UPP commander Deputy Superintendent Zakaria Abdul Rahman said the goats were believed to have been smuggled in from Thailand and kept in a store in Lubuk Sireh.Zakaria said the UPP team checked the lorry after receiving a tip-off about 6pm on Tuesday. The team also found documents with the logo of the Veterinary Services Department and the forged signature of a person at the department. Four Malaysians were detained.

A thick cloud cover over India that had obscured the sun when the eclipse began at dawn parted in several cities, minutes before the total eclipse caused when the moon covers the sun completely to cast a shadow on earth at 6.24 a.m. (0054 GMT).

At its peak, the eclipse lasted 6 minutes and 39 seconds in other parts of Asia.
It is the longest such eclipse since July 11, 1991, when a total eclipse lasting 6 minutes, 53 seconds was visible from Hawaii to South America. There will not be a longer eclipse than Wednesday's until 2132.

This event is going to be the longest total eclipse of this century and the longest seen in India since Aug 18, 1868. The next total eclipse in the country takes place on Jun 3, 2114.

BNM raids Asia Ceramic Marketing premises

KUALA LUMPUR (July 23, 2009): Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has raided Asia Ceramic Marketing Sdn Bhd's premises here following complaints received from members of the public.

The central bank said in a statement today that it was investigating the company under Section 25(1) Banking and Financial Institutions Act 1989 (Bafia) and Section 4 (1) of Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 (Amlatfa).

Section 25(1) of Bafia 1989 prohibits any person from receiving, taking, or accepting deposits without a valid licence while Section 4(1) of Amlatfa 2001 prohibits any person from engaging in, or attempting to engage in, or abetting the commission of money laundering activities.
"Relevant assets and documents of the company were seized for the purpose of investigation," BNM said.

It also reminded the public to be cautious of deposit taking and investment schemes offered through various channels such as the internet, phone calls or seminars conducted by individuals or companies not licensed or approved by the relevant authorities.

The public may refer to the list of licensed institutions authorised to accept deposits which is available on BNM's website at www.bnm.gov.my .

KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- Bank Negara Malaysia has commenced investigations into two companies, Genneva Sdn Bhd and Etika Emas Estet Sdn Bhd.

The companies are being investigated on suspicion of conducting illegal deposit taking activities in breach of subsection 25(1) of the Banking and Financial Institutions Act 1989 (BAFIA).The raids on the Klang Valley-based Genneva Sdn Bhd and Etika Emas Estet Sdn Bhd were conducted Tuesday, following information received from members of the public, the central bank said in a statement here.

Bank Negara said members of the public are reminded to be cautious of deposit and investment schemes, offered through various channels such as the internet, phone calls, or seminars, conducted by individuals or companies that are not licensed or approved by the relevant authorities.

Woman faces trial over RM5m

KUALA LUMPUR: A businesswoman claimed trial to three counts of money-laundering involving some RM5 million at the Sessions Court yesterday.

Raja Noor Asma Raja Harun, 47, the director of a trading company, FX Capitals Consultants Sdn Bhd, was charged with having in her possession the proceeds from unlawful activities at three different banks.

Raja Noor Asma allegedly had in her possession RM2 million in a client's account under the company at the RHB Investment Bank Bhd in Jalan Tun Razak and RM3.3 million at Kenanga Deutsche Futures Sdn Bhd in Jalan Sultan Ismail.

On the third charge, she was accused of possessing RM15,901.93 in a savings account at the CIMB Bank Bhd in Pandan Jaya.

The offences were allegedly committed on May 9, last year. This was the second time Raja Noor Asma was hauled to court.

Last December, she was charged by the Securities Commission with four counts of cheating and operating an investment scheme involving RM100 million without a valid licence between Feb 5, 2007, and May 9, 2008.

She also faced an alternative charge of cheating clients by operating a scheme dealing in futures contracts without a valid licence.

Raja Noor Asma was released on RM300,000 bail.The court also fixed five days for trial beginning Jan 25, next year.

In yesterday's case, DPP G. Jaya Prem proposed bail at RM1 million in one surety.

Raja Noor Asma's counsel Datuk Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, in pleading for lower amount, said the three charges she faced yesterday was related to her earlier charges.

He applied that the previous bail sum be utilised for this case as well. Judge Rozana Ali Yusoff allowed Shafee's application. She set Sept 10 for mention.

Raja Noor Asma is also expected to face 47 charges under the same Act in the Shah Alam Sessions Court soon.

1. Catch The Rabbit

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), The FBI, and the CIA are all trying to prove that they are the best at apprehending criminals. The President decides to give them a test. He releases a rabbit into a forest and each of them has to catch it.

The CIA goes in. They place animal informants throughout the forest. They question all plant and mineral witnesses. After three months of extensive investigations they conclude that rabbits do not exist.

The FBI goes in. After two weeks with no leads they burn the forest, killing everything in it, including the rabbit, and they make no apologies. The rabbit had it coming.

The LAPD goes in. They come out two hours later with a badly beaten bear. The bear is yelling: "Okay! Okay! I'm a rabbit! I'm a rabbit!"

The rescue team finds the crashed airplane. The lone survivor is chewing on a bone, with a huge pile of human bones next to him, and the rescuers are shocked. He says, "You can't judge me for this. Something is rotten in Angkasa

Angkasa - the National Cooperative Organisation of Malaysia - should put its house in order, before raising uncalled-for arguments to hide its shortcomings. Likewise its veiled threats have to stop.

Angkasa has not consulted the views of the cooperatives at large on the major amendments to the Cooperative Act 1993 and the implementation of the Cooperative Commission Act. It is a blatant abuse of their representation to the government.

They have created chaos in the cooperative movement, which consists of over 6,000 cooperatives with a membership of over 6 million members, or about 15 million if family members are included. This has led to these organisations to seek legal recourse.

Angkasa must realise that its carelessness in handling the issue has triggered a constitutional matter. Blaming Royal Professor Ungku Aziz and shifting blame for the mistake is unethical. Lessons have to be learned that whatever decisions taken is a collective responsibility of all the board members.

It is a well-known fact that contracts were awarded to a company which has self-interest in the project, and the contracts were approved without costing. This is totally unacceptable. Even the Cooperative Development Department, when informed of this negligence, swept it under the carpet.

The investigated shortcomings in Angkasa highlighted by the then director-general of the Cooperative Development Department bears testimony of its mismanagement. It is hoped that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission would expedite its investigation and bring the matter to rest.

The Angkasa directors should be suspended immediately and a director of operations be appointed to resuscitate the ailing cooperative sector.

Who's afraid of Indonesian maids?

MAIDS are people too. But you would not think so judging from the shockingly negative response from employers of domestic helpers to government legislation making one day of leave per week mandatory. Opposition to this law has laid bare the knee-jerk tendencies and racism of certain segments of Malaysian society, despite transparent attempts by employers to couch their disapproval in minarchist, or limited-government, terms.

MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek fired the first high-profile salvo on behalf of the naysayers when he wrote a blog entry questioning the wisdom of such legislation. He opined that the congregation of maids on leave could potentially make parts of the city feel "un-Malaysian", and suggested that they would be susceptible to being hoodwinked by other foreigners into committing crimes that could possibly endanger their employers' lives.

Let's ignore for the moment that these comments were primarily targeted at Indonesian domestic helpers. After all, the Filipino government, through various alphabet soup organisations, has been largely successful in enforcing the one-day leave minimum for its nationals working overseas. Instead, let us first look at our legal responsibility to provide fair working conditions for domestic helpers in general.

Legal imperatives
Article 2.2(j) of the recently ratified Asean Charter proclaims that member states will "[uphold] the United Nations Charter and international law, including international humanitarian law, subscribed to by Asean Member States". This includes Article 24 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) which reads: "Everyone has the right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation of working hours and periodic holidays with pay."

While it is true that the UDHR is not a treaty, it was formulated to define the terms "fundamental freedoms" and "human rights" as used in the United Nations Charter. The UN Charter is binding on all member states and, as has already been shown above, is a charter Asean claims to endorse. This would seem to indicate that we have an obligation from the point of view of international law, if not sheer decency, to ensure that domestic workers enjoy full labour rights, regardless of the impetus that first got the ball rolling.

Have you ever noticed girls who set their handbags on public toilet floors, then go directly to their dining tables and set it on the table?
Happens a lot! It's not always the 'restaurant food' that causes stomach distress.. Sometimes 'what you don't know will hurt you'!

Mum got so upset when guests came in the door and plopped their handbags down on the counter where she was cooking or setting up food. She always said that handbags are really dirty, because of where they have been.

It's something just about every woman carries with them. While we may know what's inside our handbags, do you have any idea what's on the outside? Women carry handbags everywhere; from the office to public toilets to the floor of the car. Most women won't be caught without their handbags, but did you ever stop to think about where your handbag goes during the day.

'I drive a school bus, so my handbag has been on the floor of the bus a lot,' says one woman. 'On! The floor of my car, and in toilets.'
'I put my handbag in grocery shopping carts and on the floor of the toilet,' says another woman 'and of course in my home which should be clean.'

We decided to find out if handbags harbour a lot of bacteria. We learned how to test them at Nelson Laboratories in Salt Lake , and then we set out to test the average woman's handbag..

Most women told us they didn't stop to think about what was on the bottom of their handbag. Most said at home they usually set their handbags on top of kitchen tables and counters where food is prepared.
Most of the ladies we talked to told us they wouldn't be surprised if their handbags were at least a little bit dirty.

It turns out handbags are so surprisingly dirty, even the microbiologist who tested them was shocked.

Microbiologist Amy Karen of Nelson Labs says nearly all of the handbags tested were not only high in bacteria, but high in harmful kinds of bacteria. Pseudomonas can cause eye infections, staphylococcus aurous can cause serious skin infections, and salmonella and e-coli found on the handbags could make people very sick.

In one sampling, four of five handbags tested positive for salmonella, and that's not the worst of it. 'There is faecal contamination on the handbags' says Amy. Leather or vinyl handbags tended to be cleaner than cloth handbags, and lifestyle seemed to play a role. People with kids tended to have dirtier handbags than those without, with one exception.

The handbag of one single woman who frequented nightclubs had one of the worst contaminations of all. 'Some type of faeces, or possibly vomit' says Amy.

So the moral of this story is that your handbag won't kill you, but it does have the potential to make you very sick if you keep it on places where you eat. Use hooks to hang your handbag at home and in toilets, and don't put it on your desk, a restaurant table, or on your kitchen countertop.

Experts say you should think of your handbag the same way you would a pair of shoes. 'If you think about putting a pair of shoes on your countertops, that's the same thing you're doing when you put your handbag on the countertops.'
Your handbag has gone where individuals before you have walked, sat, sneezed, coughed, spat, urinated, emptied bowels, etc!

Do you really want to bring that home with you?
The microbiologists at Nelson also said cleaning a handbag will help. Wash cloth handbags and use leather cleaner to clean the bottom of leather handbags..

Crises Learnt

Learnt anything from the food, fuel and financial crises?

Here are some of the insights gained from the few shocks the world has gone through over the last two years.

THE world has gone through quite a few shocks over the last two years. First, it was high food prices. Then, record oil prices. Next came the global financial crisis and, to top it all off, we're dealing with a global recession now, the first worldwide slump since the 1940s.

So, what have we learnt so far? Here are some of the insights gained.

1. Our central bank has done a pretty good job.

When commodity prices shot through the roof and prices of goods and services were jumping in the first half of 2008, Bank Negara Malaysia did not bow to peer pressure.
Other central banks made the wrong call when they raised interest rates to fight inflation. The problem was that making money more expensive would probably work if the rise in prices was caused by people spending too much. We would think twice about buying that new iPhone if, suddenly, the monthly housing loan payments went up.

But Bank Negara recognised that inflation was caused by a shortage of supply and decided not to raise interest rates. Doing so would have probably hurt consumer spending, a major economic driver.

2. In the corporate "greed is good" world, the authorities are there for a reason.

Financial companies are slightly different from others because, more often than not, they are afflicted with moral hazard. This happens when a company takes excessive risk, secure in the knowledge that they will be rescued if anything goes wrong.

Take, for example, AIG - the insurance giant that had to be bailed out by the US government. Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke said it found a gap in the rules, made irresponsible bets and took huge losses.

"This was a hedge fund, basically, that was attached to a large and stable insurance company."

But in Asia and, especially Malaysia, regulators take great pains to ensure the stability of the financial system and to protect investors. The Asian financial crisis was a good experience.

That's why, when AIG had troubles in the US, its Asian units were humming along nicely and customers did not rush to cancel their policies.

3. Even the smart ones are not that smart.

What does Europe's biggest bank HSBC, The Royal Bank of Scotland, and Japan's largest stockbroker Nomura have in common?

All of them were duped by Bernard Madoff's investment scam. So, don't fret if you think you're losing out on better returns from the stock market or some other fancy financial instrument that you do not understand. Some people are just born to be risk-averse, preferring to play it safe and be content with low but stable returns.

4. We need to produce enough food for ourselves.

The food crisis was a good reminder of what can happen if we continue to be dependent on others. Malaysia still imports part of its rice needs.

We must make sure that the plan to make Malaysia self-sufficient is a success. The crisis has shown the worst-case scenario whereby major food exporters can suddenly choose to restrict their overseas shipments.

Interestingly, a direct result of the food crisis is how rich countries are leasing land in poorer nations to ensure their food supply. Kuwait, for instance, is leasing land in Cambodia to produce rice.

5. Going green won't make you a hippie.

We need to realise that taking care of the environment is crucial for our future generation.

Keep on littering our beaches, towns and cities and our tourism industry will suffer. Keep on driving like a maniac and you'll spend more on petrol, a precious by-product of crude oil, which is getting harder to find.

Keep those five air-conditioners running and you not only get a hefty power bill but also waste precious subsidised gas, the main fuel for electricity generation. Petronas has already warned that gas for the power sector may run out after 2019.

Zulkifli takes a dig at SIS

PETALING JAYA: PKR MP Zulkifli Noordin wants the Companies Commission to stop Sisters in Islam (SIS) from using the word “Islam” in its title.

The Kulim-Bandar Baru MP has instead proposed in his blog that SIS change its name to Ikatan Wanita Kosmopolitan (Cosmopolitan Wo-men’s Alliance) – IWK being a reference to the sewerage treatment company – as “most of its members do not wear the tudung” and “are unmarried”.

Zulkifli said the word “Islam” in SIS also gave the perception that the group was speaking on behalf of or representing the voice of Islam.

“How are they going to talk about women’s rights and Muslim marriages when they themselves do not adhere to and practise the basic Islamic rule?” asked Zulkifli, who last year had aggressively tried to storm a Bar Council forum on religious conversion.

Although the PKR subsequently issued him a show-cause letter, he refused to apologise and the matter was resolved internally with no action taken against him.

Zulkifli claimed that SIS had confused the public because it was misusing the word “Islam” when it had not registered itself as such.

However, Zulkifli, who is a lawyer, said banning SIS would only evoke sympathy and be exploited by narrow-minded people to ridicule Islam.

He also urged the authorities to probe the group, adding that the National Fatwa Council should organise a muzakarah (discussion) on SIS and demand an explanation if it was deemed to be deviating.

Meanwhile, DAP chairman Karpal Singh said PAS’ open attack on SIS would not endear itself to its supporters in the next general election.

“Neither does PAS’ insistence at its assembly recently that female journalists covering the event be properly dressed,” he said.

“Then again, the insistence by PAS leaders for Malaysia to be turned into an Islamic state should it come to power is a flagrant and outrageous affront to the Federal Constitution, which specifically proclaims the country as a secular state, with Islam as the official religion.”

TM poor service

Our internet (streamyx) service was down last week from 5/5/09 until yesterday, 12/5/09.

When I call the famous 100 number.. and lodge a faulty report they said the repairman on the way. Next day no service.. Next 2 days I call and they explained that the cable was stolen and fixed by 6/05/09 and stolen again on 7/05/09. On 8/5, I call again and lastly yesterday morning my last call. I am wasting total of 45 minutes to get spoken to the guys there...

Can u believe that...?If that stealing TM cable so rampant why from last 3 years I still heard the same story.. Are police the culprit,, or the TM repairman have a share on this or the TM contractor making huge money out of that..?

Time to change fren or TM will perish in due time.....

Day b4 yesterday, I got call from mr n, want workers for cleaning his new house. His wife soo eager to enter their new house in Bdr Astana. So after explaining few things he agree with our price.. So yesterday my 2 cleners went there doing da job.. for normal job it's easier to do routine work rather than scrubbing stains.

After 3pm, they said the job was done.. but b$ that I got 3 calls from mr n.. which got calls fr his wife supervising the job... complaining one after another. aiyyo.. another one customer dissatisfied.. Then 4pm I scold the cleaners again... so we need to redo the work one more time..

Actually for new house, there must be scrubbing entire floor and not just normal mopping.. 10 times mop also can not do one... inclusive glass window and panels, toilets, stairs all must redo again.. so we waste 10 manhours for that slacky cleaners.. Next time you must bring stick or rotan with you like tok guru checking p ramlee practising silat.

Today, from 8pm to 6pm they (thre cleaners) do scrubbing all over the house.. hopefully mr n and his wife will agree with us and satisfied that their flooor already clean,.

Four expectant father sat nervously waiting their wives in labor room. Then came out a midwife to first guy.. "Congratulations sir, you got twins". Proudly he said, " I worked in Petronas twin towers...". A few minutes later on, the midwife came and said to the second father.. "Congrats sir, you got a triplets". That guys smilingly told " I worked 3 years with 3D Corporation in KL.."

The third father still wait patiently after 10 minutes when the same midwife shout at him "God bless you sir, you got quadraplets..". Woww... every body cograts him. Then he reveals that "I worked in Four Season Hotel Langkawi...".

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S *Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today.)
R *Ask h im or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
